Imaginary Reality

When I visit the gas station I pass into those god forsaken aisles where you can see him if you try hard enough. I think he hides behind the chex mix third aisle from the right. Under the beef jerky and across from the gatorade. When I caught him beyond the dumpster I didn’t know what to say, but his ass is mine and he refused to go away. But when I’m wandering behind the ice machine I don’t know where the ends will lead. To little alleyways where cryptids always know my name. To where the men gather at the forest edge to worship the highway. I’d rather talk to the deer who look at me like they know something I don’t. When I leave the only thing following me home is my shadow, but even after I’ve shut my door I’ll still be wearing my shoes.
